(miller, carpenter, farmer confederate soldier in Civil War)
"...was pressed to join the Lincoln army and was of Southern sentament and so ran away and joined the confederate army and was taken prisoner of war at Helena, AR and taken to the military prison at Alton, IL."

(Owned a large ranch near Lodi Road, about two and a half miles north of town;  cultivated 8 acres of vinyards;  small orchard;  made brooms.)

Anderson Thompson BEALS

He was killed in the great battle of Fredericksburg near Winchester, Fredrick Co, VA.  Was first buried where he fell, was supposed he was taken with the rest of the soldiers and buried in the Winchester Cemetery.  He belonged to the 28th Regiment, Company K, Iowa Infantry Volunteers,  Newton, IA commanded by Captain John Meyer.
