Church.  The

1  NOTE Lived near her parent in Jefferson County, AL until they decidedto come to Arkansas with her parents and brothers about 1860.


1  NOTE After the Civil War, he moved his family with his in-laws toHolland in 1866 and settled on land directly behind the logchurch building at Oakland.  The site of the log cabin is stillvisible within the sunken well, the large cedar trees that formtwo sides around the site of the cabin, and the rocks from thefoundation and chimney.


1  NOTE Silas, Martha Caroline, and their daughter Betty joined thecongregation at Oakland.  Silas served the church as a stewardand trustee for many years.  He also operated a blacksmith shopin Holland.

1  NOTE Trained to teach commercial work and returned to Searcy to teachin the college there.  He also taught for a time at the OaklandSchool, District #83.  He opened a business school in Pine Bluffand later moved it to Conway in 1910, operating out of abuilding on the corner of Oak and Parkway until 1933.


1  NOTE Hew was active in the First Methodist Church of Conway andorganized the first Boy Scout Troop ever organized in Conway in1912.
